The Beckenham Methodist Church wanted to construct a new, modern space to be used by the local community as a café or communal space, whilst also restoring the traditional features of the Church.
Despite this being a difficult challenge, Pellings were excited to provide Quantity Surveying and Project Management services to a treasured historic building, creating leisure facilities to help the local community and members of the Church unify and connect with each other.
The stained glass windows have been restored and the old stone wall to the side of the Church has become a feature wall within the new extension, showing our ability to maintain the original features of the Church, whilst giving them a contemporary design. The works also included installing a lift to enable easy access to the second-floor function rooms which we believed was highly important as it catered to the needs of the elderly members of the Church. The heating systems and internal audio-visual equipment were also upgraded to ensure that the community felt comfortable in the space and would receive fully functioning and efficiently built facilities.
We were pleased that we were able to provide a balance between the new and old features, meeting the expectations of members of the Church, as well as other user groups.
