The London Borough of Redbridge needed a new home for multiple local sports teams and believed that members would benefit from the creation of a national level athletics venue.
Consequently, they appointed Pellings and Longley Group to redevelop Ashton Playing Fields in Woodford Green. We provided the multi-disciplinary services needed to transform the facility, including Contract Administration, Project Management, Employers Agent, Quantity Surveying and Principal Design services. The redevelopment included building a new single-storey pavilion, constructing modern changing room facilities for home and away teams and providing a new fitness suite for the local community. Furthermore, we created a multi-use clubhouse to provide a refreshment area to spectators and updated the flood lighting around the pitch. This was aided by security fencing encompassing the whole ground to remove sight of the playing pitch to those not using the venue.
The project was highly rewarding to work on because we managed to add real value to the community. The Woodford Town Football Club can now use the new pitch in the infield of the athletics track, and Woodford Green Athletics Club, with Essex Ladies, now has full use of the facility, giving local women the chance to get into athletics in a modern environment. Furthermore, the Broxbourne and Harrow Athletics club now has a stadium that will meet British League Division 1 Standards, enabling the club to host athletic meets from athletic clubs across the country.
