The Kent County Council wanted to redevelop a greenfield site in Ashford to provide a minimum of 29 commercial units, as well as an additional creative hub that could be used by various groups within the community.
The creative hub was partly funded by the Arts Council England and now provides a new home to the Jasmin Vardimon Company which is a 20-year-old, prestigious dance company. We were appointed as Lead Designers, providing Architecture, Structural Engineering, Principal Designer, BREEAM, Planning and Acoustic advice services. The mixed-use space now provides the local community with a flexible, modern dance space and multi-use function rooms. Works to the project also included creating a suitable studio space to facilitate contemporary dance practice, modern dressing rooms, contemporary showers, improved toilet facilities, as well as creating a Pilates studio. Additionally, we provided a café, office space for up to 16 people and a production office, adhering to the needs of all stakeholders and user groups.
We were delighted to provide a cultural centre that is dedicated to Jasmin Vardimon’s creative research and productions, educational needs and multi-disciplinary artistic study. We hope that our production of a diverse, modern environment will increase the company’s cultural presence, allowing them to continue to gain world class performers.
