In May this year, we teamed up with Friends of the Elderly, as our chosen Charity Partner of the Year. The charity provides care and services to older people to allow them to live fulfilled lives. In keeping with our efforts in tackling the problem of providing suitable housing for the elderly, it was a unanimous vote from our staff to support Friends of the Elderly. Since then, our team has been busy building funds by getting involved in a number of fun and challenging activities to help make a difference. Here, we share our journey so far.
To kick-start our charity schedule, staff were tasked with whisking up some delicious cakes to sell across our five offices. Chocolate seemed to be the preferred flavour of choice, with plenty of brownies, chocolate cupcakes and chocolate sponges brought in by staff. Needless to say, there wasn’t a crumb left in sight, with over £110 raised.
Following this, we then took part in ‘Wear your Slippers Day’, which, as you might have guessed, involved the Pellings’ team donning a pair of slippers during their working day. Staff were encouraged to show-off their funniest pair, with a prize at stake for the most stand-out slippers. Irene Turner, from our Waterloo office, was the lucky winner receiving a Next voucher for modelling two different animals on her feet!
Most recently, our building surveyor Joe Moylan put together a team to conquer Tough Mudder – a gruelling 10-mile endurance event with a whopping 25 challenging obstacles. Wearing bright white Friends of the Elderly t-shirts, designed and donated free from Vickie Martin at myCreative, it wasn’t long before the sparkling white tops were covered in mud. Battling through the mud-soaked mayhem, the team successfully made it to the finish line and reached their charity goal by raising £950!
So, what’s next in line for Pellings “The team has been working hard to support Friends of the Elderly, which we will be continuing over the coming months,” says Nigel Goddard, Head of Marketing and Business Development. He continues, “We are also now working closely with the charity to look at how we can support their maintenance programme by providing our services.”
Fundraising Manager at Friends of the Elderly, Yvonne Martin says, “We are thrilled to have been chosen as Pellings’ Charity Partner and it’s fantastic to see so much support for the partnership coming through already. Joe’s team did incredibly well at Tough Mudder and we’re delighted to have the benefit of Pellings’ expertise on our property maintenance. A huge thank you to everyone at Pellings for wanting to support older people who are living in isolation or poverty, every penny you raise will make a real difference.”
