CDM Consultant/Principal Designer

Due to continued growth we are expanding our CDM/Health and Safety team by recruiting an experienced CDM/Principal Designer to join us in our Walton on Thames office. The role is working within the Health & Safety team on public sector and private developer housing projects from inception to completion. The opportunity will include the possibility to be a design lead on a high-profile project, which will involve a number of Design Review Panels.

Pay/Package: Dependent on experience

Company Sector: Construction across New Build Social Housing, Education, Civic and Industrial

Desired Experience: Relevant experience of working for a professional consultancy, particularly related to social housing and education sectors. Ability to provide production information packaged with presentation skills, leading a team on larger projects.


  • NEBOSH General Certificate and NEBOSH Construction Certificate
  • Membership of IOSH
  • Membership of AaPS, ideally IMaPS
  • Working knowledge of CDM2015, associated guidance (L153) and CITB role requirement guidance
  • NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management & Fire Risk Assessment (desirable)

Role and responsibilities:

  • To work as part of a team providing CDM services to Pellings in-house design team on a large range of projects for public and private sector clients.
  • To provide CDM and Health & Safety Services to Clients both in the public and private sectors.
  • Undertake the role of Principal Designer as required by CDM2015.
  • Undertake the role of CDM advisor to the Principal Designer and/or Client to enable them to ensure compliance under CDM 2015.
  • Positive participation at relevant meetings.
  • Ensuring Designers comply with their duties under CDM2015.
  • Attending Design Team and Value Engineering Workshops as necessary.
  • Management of pre-construction and post-construction information.
  • Undertake site inspection/audits on behalf of the Client.
  • Advise and assist the Client in general Health & Safety matters.
