University of Westminster's Regent Street Cinema Resurrected

The Herritage Lottery Fund supported refurbishment of Grade II listed building Regent Street Cinema has been completed. Pellings provided Project Management and CDM-C services on the circa £3.8m project for the University of Westminster to resurrect what was the birthplace of British Cinema, where the first moving image was demonstrated by the Lumiere Brothers in 1896.

The refurbishment has incorporated a return to the original 1927 look and feel of the Cinema, and includes a 200 seat auditorium, period finishes, a café/bar/education area, green room and box office. The project will run as a commercial enterprise as well as providing a state-of-the-art facility for use by the University of Westminster's Media Arts & Design Film School. Pellings was appointed to the project in March 2014 from RIBA stage 3 to its completion in April 2015.
