First of two school projects for London Borough of Merton completed

A 1FE expansion at Poplar Primary School in Morden was completed in May with staff and pupils moving into the new building for the start of the summer term. Pellings acted as Architect, Interior Designer and Contract Administrator on the £4m expansion for the London Borough of Merton. The development has provided the School with eight additional classrooms, a multipurpose hall, an extension to the School kitchen, new offices for staff, a new main entrance and a range of new play areas including a 'trim trail' outdoor assault course.

Graham Burkle, Architect, recently attended the opening of the school where students and teachers participated in a musical production and prepared a time capsule to mark the occasion. Graham was presented with a thank you card from the students which included comments about how pleased they are with the new building, one saying "thank you to the Architects that designed our new building, we love it. I like that it is big and I like the colours, especially in the new art room."

Pellings was appointed for the expansion of both Poplar and Merton Abbey Primary Schools by the London Borough of Merton via the London Construction Programme (LCP) Framework, with Merton being the latest of a number of London Local Authorities to procure their expansion projects through the Framework. Merton Abbey Primary School is currently undergoing a similar expansion and is due to be completed in summer 2015.
