Barking Enterprise Centre open for business

The opening of the Pellings designed, Barking Enterprise Centre, took place on Monday at a ceremony attended by the Mayor of Barking and Dagenham, local councillors and representatives from all the parties involved in the successful project. Pellings were commissioned by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham along with contractor McLaren as Architect on the project back in 2009 and were delighted to see the building handed over on time and to budget.

The ceremony saw speeches by the Mayor, Cllr Milton McKenzie MBE, and Charles Mindenhall, Chairman of Agilisys, the management company who will be responsible for the operating of the building on behalf of the Borough. Several references were made to the quality of the work by all consultants involved in the project who were instrumental in the successful delivery of the building.

The building's design incorporates a number of innovative environmental elements such as a 'brown' bio-diverse roof, PV panels, and motion detection lighting, contributing to the building's 'Excellent' BREEAM rating. The building forms part of Barking and Dagenham's plans to encourage businesses to the area, and provide them with the flexibility to innovate and grow within the area. It provides 48 environmentally friendly units for small to medium sized businesses, offering shared support, reception and meeting rooms.

With the customary cutting of the ribbon the building was declared open for business. It is hoped that success of the project will have earned us a good reputation within the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, an area expected to benefit from further investment over the coming years.
