Burial of 'Time Capsule' takes place at school

Graham Burkle recently attended the burial of a 'Time Capsule' at the recently completed £2m building at Blackfen School for girls. Students placed the capsule inside the body of a bench that forms a new seating area adjacent to the building.

The contents of the capsule have been chosen by students and include, photos of students in lessons, a letter from Head Teacher, Mr Brown, and the Chair of Governors, Bill Stone, a Justin Bieber CD to give an idea of contemporary popular music and an outline of a day at Blackfen School.

Head Teacher Mr Brown said, "With the school undergoing physical changes, this is a great opportunity to capture this time and place for posterity. We hope that in years to come, staff and students will utilise the contents of the capsule to get an idea of how the school and its community has changed over the years. It could play a huge part in the history lessons of the future."

Pellings acted as Architects and Town Planners on the new building that incorporates a new performance auditorium of a standard for professional use, a foyer that could be used as a new reception, and a visually impaired unit, alongside other specialist teaching facilities.
